I recently relocated to Accra with the assistance of Amanda Gregory at Head Medical. Working with her was a really great experience. I was impressed with her thoroughness, professionalism and sincerity and the fact she was concerned enough to make follow up calls to check on me even after I had started in my new role. Consequently, the transition was remarkably smooth, despite my moving home, hospital, and continent.
I started working in a brand-new hospital in Accra with visionary leadership and a multicultural team of physicians and surgeons from diverse backgrounds including prior experience working in Europe, the USA, Canada, the Middle East, Ghana and elsewhere in Africa. It has been particularly rewarding to be involved in building my department from scratch with a great supportive administrative team. Most patients speak English, and this is more than enough to get by.
Ghana is a friendly country and patients are very appreciative of good quality health care. The traffic can at times be considerable but there is a lot of good quality housing available a short drive from the Hospital which is very helpful. The cost of domestic help is very cheap and readily available. There is sunshine all year round and many good places to eat out if one is so inclined.
