The Role
The 22-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care. Responsible for out-patient clinics at various locations every week you will cover various clinical needs for adults and children, including diabetes, hypertension and cardio-pulmonary disease which are highly prevalent on the island.
Taking care of in-patients, you will be on the primary on-call rota (approximately 1 in 4) in the triage and attendance of urgent care and emergencies. There will be on-call cover from specialist colleagues in anaesthetics/intensive care, general surgery, and obstetrics/gynaecology. You will also attend clinical emergencies and urgent care duties, incident management, outbreak response and other healthcare emergencies. This role reports into the Chief Medical Officer.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for undertaking out-patient clinics at various location of the island every week, covering a wide range of clinical needs for adults and children, including care for patients with diabetes, hypertension, cardio-pulmonary disease which are highly prevalent on the island.
2. Actively involved in preventive care and lifestyles management and serve as a clinical champion for preventive service development.
3. With support from overseas specialists and using local therapeutic guidelines and protocols, the post holder will also be expected to consult paediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology patients.
4. Responsible to take care of in-patients as well as being on the primary on-call rota supporting the nursing staff in the triage and attendance of urgent care and emergencies. There will be specialist on-call cover from specialist colleagues in anaesthetics/ intensive care, general surgery and obstetrics/gynaecology.
5. Participate in training of other healthcare staff, clinical governance work including audits, clinical outcome data collation and reporting. Maintain continuous professional development.
6. Actively participate in health promotion and preventative care programmes including providing brief interventions and other lifestyle management support to patients.
7. Actively participate in daily clinical meetings and weekly overseas referral meetings.
8. Undertake training of relevant clinical staff including direct supervision, when needed.
9. Actively participate in incident management, outbreak response and other healthcare emergencies.
Requirements
Full GMC registration or equivalent and good standing with that body.
GP with a broad range of skills, happy to operate in remote and challenging conditions, showcasing your adaptability and experience across varied medical situations.
