About the Job

Jersey currently have an opportunity for a Consultant Haematologist to cover a locum 

 

12th May 2025 - Ongoing 

 

Mon - Fri 9am -5pm (no on calls) 

Hospital Accommodation provided ** 

Return flights covered **

 

Jersey is a fabulous island, south of the English coast. They have a population of 106,000.  Their  transport links to all major cities in the U.K. are excellent, and they share the same time zone as the UK.

Their 50 miles of coastline ensure you never have to travel far to find a beach and, when you do, you will find pebbly coves, rocky outcrops and golden, sandy shores and they offer a jaw-dropping amount of activities to enjoy! 

 

The Role:

 Clinics:

Monday and Thursday afternoon: General haematology clinics ( new patients and follow up)

Tuesday am Local MDT meeting

Wednesday morning; either Lymphoma clinic or General haematology clinic

Daily plan:

9.00-9.30 : daily meeting with the haematology team for the daily issues

Review haematology patients in the wards (if and when there this is the case)

Answer to queries from the doctors in the wards or the GP’s

Clinical oversight to Blood Sciences Lab/Transfusion/ Donor room/ venesection/warfarin nurse

MDT’s;

Local MDT discussion prechemo clinic on Tuesday morning

Lymphoma MDT (Southampton via teams): Tuesday 11.45 (usually every week there are patients for discussion)

Myeloid and Myeloma MDT (Bournemouth via teams) : Friday 9.00-9.30 (when and if there are patient for discussion)

Chemotherapy prescribing:

Wide range of treatment is delivered in the Le Quesne Unit, usually prescribed weekly every Friday morning, but this is also depended on the current needs

Referrals;

 referrals/ advice requests from GP’s and colleagues from the wards. They either accept the referrals and when there is no need to see the patient in the clinic we usually dictate a relevant letter giving advice.

Laboratory:

Review of blood films

Bone marrow aspirate and bone marrow trephine reports ( we request second opinion from haematopathology lab in Southampton for lymphoma patients and complicated patients)

Training;

Training to the BMS ,junior doctors or nurses is possible, with previous notice

 

Rate: paid PAYE Via Jersey  -Jersey's Lower tax rates kick in after 6 months! 

 

Experience Required:

  • Full GMC registration with Specialist Registration 
  • Experience of work in UK hospital systems (or equivalent, not just shadowing)
