The Role
The new Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Mental Health Team has been developed to better meet the needs of patients 16 years and over with neurodivergent disorders, developmental disorders and congenital intellectual disability who access Gold Coast Health services. This is a multi-disciplinary team with a combination of Allied Health, Nursing, General Medicine and Mental Health medical staff.
The inpatient team will be caring for patients who do not have acute medical or psychiatric needs and are in hospital whilst community supports and appropriate accommodation is developed.
The community team will provide assessments and evidence-based bio-psycho-social interventions to patients in the Gold Coast region who access Mental Health and Specialist Services (MHSS) and have a primary intellectual and developmental disability with co-occurring moderate to severe mental disorders that require assessment or interventions by the public mental health services.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.
The Medical Board of Australia is establishing a new expedited pathway to specialist registration, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification. The list of accepted qualifications will be published shortly, with the new pathway available from December 2024.
