Associate Consultant or Consultant (Haematology)
Job Description
A specialist Haematologist position is available in a major tertiary hospital in Singapore. The facility is a 795-bed general and acute care hospital located in the Northern part of Singapore.
The position is based in the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM), which provides a comprehensive range of laboratory services. The Haematologist will provide consultative clinical services to the hospital and diagnostic services to the laboratory. Participation in teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities is also expected.
Clinical duties include managing Haematology patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings. You will be expected to conduct three specialist clinics per week and handle inpatient referrals. Parenteral chemotherapy is an area under development at our hospital. You will be responsible for managing patients with benign haematological disorders, thrombosis, and myeloproliferative neoplasms.
As a member of the laboratory diagnostic service, you will be expected to report on blood films and bone marrows, assist the laboratory in interpreting abnormal results, and participate in quality control and procedure reviews. Leadership in licensing, accreditation and external quality assurance activities is expected. You will also be involved in adding new tests to the laboratory inventory over time, as well as the procurement and setup of laboratory equipment. Liaison with other clinicians as well as senior staff in other laboratories is expected.
In addition to the clinical duties outlined above, there are administrative, research, and educational commitments expected, including (but not limited to) serving on hospital and external (up to national-level) committees in roles related to the specialty. You will be expected to teach various levels of staff, including medical undergraduates, junior doctors (including haematology trainees), and laboratory technical staff.
Candidates should be qualified and experienced medical specialists with relevant qualifications suitable for registration with the Singapore Medical Council and the Singapore Specialists Accreditation Board.
Please note: Due to the Singapore Medical Council licensing requirements, the hospital can only consider a specialist with one or more of the below qualifications:
- Certification by one of the medical specialty boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Fellowship with the Hong Kong Academy or College (FHKAM, FHKAM etc)
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT or CCST) awarded by a competent authority of the UK or Ireland (Please note CESR is not recognised in Singapore)
- Certification by one of the Royal Colleges in Australia or New Zealand
