- Commitment to ongoing professional development, including conference and sabbatical leave, in additional to annual leave entitlements
- Dynamic team environment
The Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Consultant in General Medicine, who will work as part of the Department of Acute Medicine across the North West region. Sub-specialty interests in geriatrics would be an advantage.
The department of Medicine has a team of eleven general medicine physicians across the region currently providing general medicine services and have subspecialties/interests in endocrinology, geriatrics, nephrology, cardiology and infectious diseases.
The position involves management of patients in the rehabilitation service, located in a purpose-built ward at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH). The department has solid junior doctor support with a Registrar and an RMO. The position is based predominately at the MCH and provides clinical and medical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team delivering inpatient and ambulatory rehabilitation services to the North West community.
The Hospitals
The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe close to Devonport.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
The Location
Ask any Australian, Tasmania is known for its beautiful fresh produce and seafood, attracting “foodies” with its restaurants and cafes.
The temperate climate and four distinct seasons - including gloriously warm summers without the oppressive humidity or heat, and cool winters - mean the region has perfect wine growing conditions and this is reflected in the excellent wines produced along the Tamar River, with lots of little boutique wineries.
The rugged and beautiful North West Coast of Tasmania is a tourist mecca, has a strong agricultural sector, a developing innovative industrial sector and is positioned with airports and sea transport so it is very accessible to the rest of Tasmania and the Australian mainland. Air travel from Devonport to Melbourne is less than one hour. The property market has significantly lower prices than mainland Australia.
