Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is spread across a vast geographical area and centred across two hospitals based in Tauranga and Whakatāne.  We serve a population of approximately 259,000 for the major population centres of Tauranga, Katikati, Te Puke, Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki.  Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is one of the Bay of Plenty’s largest employers with over 4000 staff.

About the Role

The Gastroenterology service at Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty provides specialist services to people living across the Bay of Plenty. The service provides ambulatory outpatient clinics at both Tauranga and Whakatāne, along with participating in the delivery of endoscopy across both sites. 

In addition, an acute inpatient service is provided at Tauranga, alongside an after-hours acute bleeding service. 

The Gastroenterology team includes seven SMOs, Registrar and advanced training roles, nurse endoscopist and clinical nurse specialist. Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty commenced participation in the National Bowel Screening in 2022 and is continuing to meet national wait time indicators. 

About You

We are looking to recruit a Specialist with proficiency in the provision of Gastroenterology specialist care to join our service. 

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivery of both diagnostic and interventional procedures and enthusiasm to participate in the ongoing development of services for the people of Hauora a Toi. The role will participate in the delivery of education (undergraduate and postgraduate) and contribute to the supervision and development of advanced trainees (including nurse endoscopists).
