The Role
As part of a multidisciplinary Mental Health Service, the Consultant Psychiatrist will deliver high quality mental health care and:
- Provides a comprehensive general adult Consultation-Liaison (CL) psychiatric service in the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and associated facilities, including the Emergency Department (ED) and the Mental Health Short Stay Unit (MHSSU).
- Acts as a consultant to mental health professionals, and health service providers including RHH medical staff, general practitioners and other agencies, with regard to the assessment and management of individuals with mental health disorders.
- Undertakes supervisory responsibilities with psychiatric registrars and other medical staff as required and appropriate.
You will be located at the Royal Hobart Hospital and may require you to work across the Emergency Department, Mental Health Short Stay Unit, and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatric Service.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand and 3 years Consultant/Specialist level work experience.
The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. Now is the time to apply for a new role.
