The Role and Hospital
Rockhampton Hospital offers accredited registrar training as well as experience for Rural Generalists and GP Obstetricians. The Department is the main referral hospital for Central Queensland and provides maternity care services for more than 1200 deliveries annually, through a mixture of Shared Care, Continuity Midwife teams and multidisciplinary High-Risk Clinics. The Maternity Unit is supported by a level four (≥32 weeks) special care nursery.
The department also provides level five laparoscopic and major gynaecological surgical services with twelve to fourteen scheduled operating theatre lists per fortnight. There are daily general gynaecology and antenatal clinics, plus uro-gynaecology and colposcopy services, as well as a community-based Indigenous antenatal clinic service.
Gladstone Hospital offers quality maternity services to all patients and delivers around 600 babies each year. The maternity unit has three birth suites, a 14-bed antenatal/postnatal ward and a neonatal nursery. Maternity care is provided by a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified midwives, doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in certain specialties. Obstetrics and Gynaecology is the next priority specialty to be considered.

The Region
The region offers a superb lifestyle and a healthy family environment with a range of cultural, recreational and sporting activities. Real estate prices are extremely affordable with a choice of town, coast or country living. House prices and availability mean you can choose the house you want instead of compromising in a major metropolitan city. This means tropical garden, swimming pool etc.
Stroll along the river, drive out to the coast exploring the many beaches, the Carnarvon National Park, the botanic gardens, as well as the Great Barrer Reef.
