The Role and Department

This role is responsible for assisting the Medical Imaging Department in:

  • Provision of high-quality clinical services as part of the Unit/Department
  • Education of radiology registrars, medical staff and students, allied health professionals and interested community groups or nursing staff.
  • Active participation in patient safety, audit, research, and service planning activities
  • Provide a safe and efficient specialist diagnostic and interventional radiology service to patients under their care.
  • Provide expert clinical services for the Unit/Department within the Clinical Services Capability Framework for the facility, and within the Clinical Privileges formally granted to the Staff Specialist from time to time.
  • Foster the promotion of standards of excellence in the provision of clinical and public health services.
  • Ensure diagnostic and examination reporting is undertaken in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Utilise resources regarding patient priorities and need.
  • Ability to take full responsibility for independent management of patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with patients and other team members
  • Maintain personal radiation safety at all times.
  • Participate in on-call and other clinical activities which support the availability of a full range of services at all times

Medical Imaging Department is located on the ground floor of the E-Block at Mackay Base Hospital delivers a range of services including General Radiography, Computed Tomography, Ultrasound, Intervention, Fluoroscopy, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Theatre II.

The service includes remote rural reporting for MHHS rural sites, including CT services at Proserpine and Bowen.

Medical imaging team is staffed with 24 radiographers, 4 sonographers, 4 FTE consultants, 1.5 FTE STP funded RANZCR trainees and 2 FTE unaccredited registrars. MBH Medical Imaging is a RANZCR-accredited training site, with rotating trainee registrars through the Queensland Radiology Training Network.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship with the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiology (RANZCR) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
