The department of Haematology have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Clinical Haematologist, to be based in the coastal region of Hawkes Bay, or the exciting Taranaki / New Plymouth region.
About the role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Haematologist to join an established team of seven Haematologists and four resident medical officers. The position is fulltime permanent and required to participate in a 1 in 8 on call roster. We are ideally looking for someone who has experience and/or a special interest in Haemato-Oncology.
About our service:
We provide Clinical Haematology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology services to the districts that cover the communities of the Manawatū, northern Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Whanganui and Taranaki. This is a combined population of 600,000. The service provides inpatient and outpatient haematology care and manages a wide range of haematological conditions including acute leukaemia, lymphoma, autologus stem cell transplantation, plasma exchange, haemostatsis and thrombosis. Inpatient care is delivered at Palmerston North Hospital. Outpatient clinics are run at Palmerston North, Whanganui, Hawera, New Plymouth and Hawkes Bay. The Department maintains an active clinical research portfolio including clinical trials. The service is an approved FRACP training center and undertakes active postgraduate teaching at House Officer, Senior House Officer and Registrar level. Multi-disciplinary case meetings (Tumour Boards) are held locally and regionally.

Construction is currently underway for a state-of-the-art cancer centre; this will transform the way people with cancer in Taranaki receive their treatment. Taranaki boasts some of New Zealand's most iconic natural landscapes like Mt Taranaki and many adventure activities. The rugged and wild coastline is home to more than 12 world-class surf breaks. Taranaki is a place where you can ski and surf in the same day. For a more relaxing experience, there are many walks (bush, coastal or mountain) as well as art trails, festivals and award-winning museums and galleries and a thriving café culture.
