Consultant Anaesthesia

Taranaki, New Plymouth

Permanent or 1 year Fixed Term roles 1.0 FTE 

Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Anaesthetist to join our Department.

Te Whatu Ora – Taranaki is a large regional organisation operating in the exciting, changing Health sector. 

The Hospital has 6 Operating Theatres, 2 Endoscopy/Procedure suites, a 12 Bedded PACU1 and 24 Bed PACU 2 in the theatre complex.  A new acute care building is currently being built with a commissioning date in 2025.  Surgical specialities provided include General Surgery, ENT / ORL, Ophthalmology, Maxillo-facial, Obstetrics / Gynaecologists, 7 Orthopaedic Surgeons, 1 Urologist and 1 Vascular surgeon. Supporting facilities are good with CT/MRI and a new interventional radiology suite.  There is an in-house laboratory and pathology service, a cardiology suite and a dialysis unit.

About the Anaesthetic Service

You would join a group of 23 Anaesthetic Consultants. The Anaesthetic service is supported by a full complement of Anaesthetic Technicians who assist at all anaesthetics. This is a teaching hospital with six Anaesthetic Registrars and a provisional fellow.  Supervision and clinical teaching is expected.

The successful candidate will take part in an anaesthesia on-call rota with Registrar support. 

Regular departmental meetings are rostered within normal working hours to maintain a high standard of practiceThere is a monthly CPD meeting with a regular M&M component usually held after hours.
