The new Skills in Demand (SID) visa replaced the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa on 7 Dec 2024 but has maintained the same 482 visa subclass number: Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482)

Details of Tier 3, the Essential Skills Stream, are yet to be announced.
Resident Medical Officers, General Practitioners, Specialist Doctors and Nurses/ Midwives are all ANZSCO Skill Level 1 occupations and are included in the Core Skills Occupation List.
Notable policy changes include:
- 482 visa holders will have up to 180 days to find a new employer or arrange to leave Australia if they stop working for their nominating employer.
- Labour Market Testing (LMT) will now remain valid for 6 months
- Applicants must have worked in their nominated occupation or a related field for at least 1 year (rather than 2) and have at least 1-year relevant work experience in their nominated occupation or a related field within the last 5 years
