I graduated as a GP in my hometown of Barcelona and worked in Spain for many years before moving to Rio de Janeiro where I worked as a GP for the last 5 years. Many of my friends who live and work as GPs in the UK frequently told me about how much they enjoy working and living there. I had heard fantastic things about the public health system, especially the prospect of learning new skills and the many opportunities for career progression. These were definitely the main factors that initially attracted me to a career in the NHS.
Once I had finally made the decision to join my friends and make the move to the unique city of London, I got in contact with NHS England. They advised me to apply via Head Medical as they’re the lead recruiters for NHS England positions in London. Head Medical were very approachable and extremely helpful during the application process – it was a big decision and from the outset I had full support from their dedicated UK Team and I couldn’t be more grateful.
I’ve now started at my chosen practice and so far have found it very exciting! There are lots of new things going on and processes to learn, and both the people at the surgery and the NHS have been so helpful and friendly! I appreciate their kindness and support very much.
If you are a GP considering changing location and making the move to the UK, my advice is to apply right away! The UK really is a great country to live in, and there is so much to do and see. Come and enjoy the excellent career prospects in this lovely city.
