Imagine yourself living here next year.
I took this photo on my phone at the beach in my hometown of Mount Maunganui, a suburb of Tauranga in the stunning Bay of Plenty. It was just a regular Friday afternoon in October and a perfect day for a wander down to the beach. The paddle boarders were out, as were the surfers and swimmers of all ages, as well as those who just wanted to simply sit and soak up the sun and the fresh, clean air. Taking it all in, I thought, this is exactly why we moved here...
I relocated back to NZ with my family in September 2017 from Scotland, where I had lived for 20 years. I used to pop back home for regular holidays and each time it got harder to leave. We had seen how people live day to day here and we wanted a better lifestyle for ourselves too; the economy is thriving and business confidence is really high, the climate is lovely, people live outside more and seem to have a more relaxed view on life. We were so fed up of living in the UK with the recession and years of government austerity, cuts to the health service, shops on the high street closing, and then of course, Brexit.
So we decided to do it. Having recruited doctors for New Zealand for the last 9 years, I was now taking the plunge myself! Even though I’m from NZ originally, it was still a big move to make. We had a house to sell, pension plans, our careers to think about. But we did our research and asked a lot of questions, and I'm pleased to say that stood us in good stead and it's all going well so far now we’re one year in.
So I know - and appreciate - what's involved in relocating with a family, including pets (mainly a lot of lists and a lot of coffee!) and I can help you through the decision making process about which locations in NZ might suit you best; what to think about when planning your own relocation; how to find a good school; or open a bank account. It's high stakes and I can offer you guidance all the way through as the process unfolds.
But its good for you to do your own research too, explore the regions, get a real feel for NZ online, talk to friends (or visit) and find out what it can offer you and your family.
Of course, not everybody wants to make a permanent move. Some people want to try it out for a year and see how it goes. That's a great way to experience the lifestyle and see whether you want to extend your time here or go back home, re-energised with a fresh perspective.
I have a number of positions in both the North Island and South Island, in tertiary referral centres and district general hospitals, with permanent or fixed term (minimum 12 months) opportunities in 2019.

I can walk you through the eligibility criteria for medical registration in NZ (which may include meeting English Language requirements, depending on where you come from), followed by the recruitment process.
I work closely with our Head Medical Registration Adviser and in-house Licensed Immigration Adviser for New Zealand, who manages the medical registration and work visa applications once a job offer has been accepted if required. Some hospitals like to manage this process with you themselves however. Meanwhile, I continue to liaise with you and your new NZ Employer, planning your arrival and smooth transition into your new role.
