If you were watching the BBC coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, or if you were lucky enough to visit it in person, you may have seen the Beauty of Islam garden by Kamelia Bin Zaal. It’s a lovely, very peaceful, multi-sensory garden full of running water, sculpture and beautiful plants (like the incredible Bismark palms).
You can watch a clip of the designer talking about her garden here: http://bbc.in/1FxdWci
We were very inspired to see the coverage of the designer’s process in a full episode which also shows the desert around Dubai, the designer’s own lush Dubai garden, and the stunning Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. It’s so interesting to hear Bin Zaal, who is from Dubai, talking about her culture and showing us a few of the things she and her family enjoy locally.
Follow this link: http://bbc.in/1JKHkvL to see the episode on BBC iPlayer until 22 June, the section about the Beauty of Islam garden runs from around 18 minutes into the programme to 23 minutes through.
It is always exciting to discover more about the places we recruit to, and to see local people who are so passionate about their country and culture and sharing it with the world.
In addition to the lovely insight into Dubai and Abu Dhabi, there was also a short video that will interest any keen gardeners thinking of moving to Australia. The very personal and moving Time in Between garden by Charlie Albone showcases the plants that he grows in his own garden, near Sydney, which is a lovely mix of British and Australian plants.
