The Royal Flying Doctors Service has been an iconic service in Australia since 1928 (originally known as AIM Aerial Medical Service). Within the first few years, the service flew extensively throughout the country and fast became the first comprehensive air ambulance service in the world.
The RFDS is well respected throughout Australia and is credited with bringing more to rural life than any other service.
Advances in technology have made great improvements to the service over the years. Originally Radio was key to communication but now RFDS is able to keep in touch with Practices and Patients through the internet and satellite communications. Consultations can be carried out online and support can be given to remote practices.
Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, the RFDS delivers primary health care and 24-hour emergency medical services, each base covering an area as big as France.
Due to the nature of the role, GPs have to be fully comparable with Australian GPs as supervision cannot be provided.
60% of flights are made with Nurse and Pilot only and GPs are supported by Nursing, Communication and Support staff.
RFDS are recruiting throughout Australia and have a variety of requirements for GPs.
With no two days the same, an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Flying Doctors has become available.
