GP owned practice in tropical Queensland. Monday to Friday - no weekend sessions!!!

The Role

This is an independent general practice on the outskirts of Mackay.  It’s GP owned, currently with 4 GPs who work full time. They have one of their long standing GPs who is moving interstate so the new GP will be taking over a very busy patient base.

The practice can accommodate 6 GPs in total, it has a well equipped treatment room and is fully computerised / paperless.  The GPs are supported by receptionists, an experienced practice manager and full time nurses.  There is AHP support within the complex from pathology, pharmacy, physiotherapy and dentist with the practice having a visiting mental health nurse 2 days per week.

The doctors have a range of special interests and see a lot of skin cancer patients, occupational health and chronic disease management.  They aren’t looking for any special interests in particular but you must have good all round family medicine experience – their patient base has an average age of 35 and they see a lot of young families.

It’s also a teaching practice taking registrars and medical students.  They are a supportive practice and will encourage a non VR GP to progress through the FRACGP / FACRRM exams.

Opening hours are Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm.  No after hours or on call .

Appointments are booked at 4 per hour although walk in / emergencies are also fitted in.

  • 65% of billings (VR and non VR)
  • Minimum hourly guarantee $100ph for first three months.
  • Minimum of 12 month contract
  • Average weekly billings in the region of $10,000 - $13,000 per week

To be considered for this position you must have a specialist GP qualification from a fully  comparable country with relevant GP experience.

The Location

The Mackay region embraces a relaxed tropical lifestyle at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. The region offers an incredible diversity of locations and lifestyle from beaches, islands, hinterlands, grain, forests, mountains and lowlands, inner city, outback and everything in between.

Economic diversity and a progressive community attitude towards development make the Mackay Whitsunday region one of the most rewarding areas in Queensland in which to live, work and enjoy life.

Covering an area in excess of 90,000 square kilometres, the region is home to 143,000 friendly people. The weather is one of its greatest assets, with warm to hot tropical summers and blue skies, sunshine and cool nights throughout the remainder of the year.

What Head Medical can do for you

Arranging a position overseas is very exciting, but we understand that it can also be daunting and time consuming. We’re the UK’s specialist in international medical recruitment and we’ve helped many Doctors relocate since we first started out in 2008 (you can read what people have said about working with us on our testimonials page). We know it’s important to balance career opportunities with lifestyle and we’ll talk through your plans and will get to know you to make sure we find the right role in the right location.

Once we have secured a job for you, we’ll manage the Medical Registration and Visa application process, and support you (and your family) with the relocation itself.
